Gumbo Restaurant: Creole gastronomy in Madrid

We have the idea that the typical American cuisine revolves around hamburgers, hot dogs and at best, ribs in barbecue sauce. And while this stereotype is very true, there are other things too, with traveling to the south of this country and poking around a bit, you can find one of the most delicious and unexpected cuisines of what you imagine: Cajun and Creole.

Cajun and Creole gastronomy is found in the state of Louisiana and is characterized by being very spicy, with French, Spanish and African inspiration.

It is the maximum representation that there is "quality American food" that has nothing to envy to any Mediterranean country.

And do you know what is best? That in Madrid there is a restaurant that prepares this type of dishes. It's called Gumbo, It's in the Malasaña neighborhood and it's good enough for the King of Spain to go eat there a few years ago.

What to eat in Gumbo restaurant

If you start observing what other diners are eating, you will realize that almost everyone asks for the famous fried green tomatoes. As the name they say they are green tomatoes, battered, fried, with remoulade sauce that includes the odd minigamba. It is one of the star dishes and I recommend it as an entrance 🙂

Then you have fresh salads, Cajun chicken salad, mussels au gratin, or the incredible bourbon chicken wings (pictured).

If you want to go for the specialties, you can not miss the Jambalaya, which is a rice with chicken, prawns and a chorizo typical of the French and Cajun gastronomy called Andouille.

You can also order the grouper and the Creole prawns or the french quarter prawns. If you prefer meat, the oxtail loin is a good option.

There are desserts, of course. Brownies and variety of cakes.

In addition to all these dishes that you can always find in the menu, they have a section of seasonal suggestions where they take advantage of the products of the moment to elaborate delicious recipes.

In any case I recommend you to see the letter published on its website by clicking on this link: http://www.gumbo.es/carta/. Or better yet, go directly to the restaurant and get carried away by the recommendations of the waiters.

If you go during the week at lunch time, you can try the menu of the day.
